Cold jug
Agua Fresca Horchata No Sugar
Rice and cinnamon, nothing added to sweeten
From $24.99Price shown at our last check and set by the store, not by us.
Horchata without the sweetening is a quieter drink and a very different one. The rice and the milk still give it that pale cream color and soft body, but with nothing added to sweeten, the toasted grain and the cinnamon bark step forward. It is the version people ask for when the sweetened jug has been coming out heavier than they remember.
Stirred cold when the sweet version has been feeling like too much.

A serving here is a weight, not a glass. We divide the pouch by the number of servings printed on it, so the grams add up whatever size cup you drink from.
What goes into it
Grain you can taste
Ground rice is the base of horchata, and without sweetening you taste it as grain rather than as dessert. The flavor is dry, toasted and clean, closer to what comes off a comal than to anything out of a bottle.
Cinnamon with room
Real cinnamon bark, ground fine, no longer competes with sugar. It reads woody and warm instead of candied, and it lingers after the glass is empty. This is the note most people are really after in a horchata.
Still settles, still stirs
Rice powder drops to the bottom of the pitcher while it rests, same as the sweetened blend. That sediment is the drink working properly. Keep a long spoon by the jug and turn it once before every pour.
Two pouch sizes
We pack this one small for a single pitcher and large for a table that keeps refilling. Both fold shut so the ground rice stays dry in the cupboard until the next jug goes on the counter.
The other version
The sweetened original, poured the way the market stalls pour it.
Made the same way
Stirred into cold water and poured over ice.
Agua Fresca Horchata No Sugar
Ground rice, milk and real cinnamon with no sugar added, so the toasted grain and the bark carry the glass.
